We've decided to do the right thing and merge our website and blog into one site. Our old website was starting to look a bit 90s and the blog could do with using our identity a bit more. Our Wordpress fairy godmother is hard at work and we should be relaunching in a couple of weeks.
Meanwhile we've been hard at work getting 2009 up and running. We've some really interesting campaigns in the pipeline (despite the recession) so looking forward to getting ... Read More

The final ghd style lounge of the year was held in Cape Town on Friday. The campaign (conceived a put together by Atmosphere) mixed online and social network marketing, events and plenty of traditional PR. It basically worked like this.
1: We pitched the events to the whats new/fashion news and events pages of Longlead press (magazines with 3-4 months lead time) in advance of the event.
2: We worked with a stylist and photographer to create a transportable pop-up hair salon and self-portrait ... Read More

The business team launched a new private equity company, Coast2Coast, earlier this year. We were lucky because the two owners of the business made our job easy. Not only are Gary Shayne and Cris Dillon both self-made men who are using their own funds to invest in thriving South African businesses, but MD Gary actually managed to build a number of highly successful companies in Zimbabwe during the height of the country’s troubles – no mean feat. Atmosphere was very pleased with ... Read More

We've recently launched a design competition with KWV to celebrate their 90th Anniversary. In collaboration with eco-fashion label Give-It-Bag we've invited young designers to submit graphic designs for the front of a wine cooler bag. The bag will be made from recycled shipping bags and sold at the KWV wine emporium in the new year. As soon as we have the winning design we'll also be profiling the bags in lifestyle magazines. This is part of a wider campaign to make consumers ... Read More

In The City, a relatively new client still of ours was featured in Sunday Times Lifestyle Magazine last weekend. Sean is one of the two co-owners and one of the things we want to do for them is get across the very personal approach that they take to their business (which this profile piece does nicely). I'm just looking at renting an apartment in Buenos Aires for a holiday later in the year so I know from personal experience, seeing that there ... Read More

Ah it's always nice to spot a new marketing trend. Alternate Reality Games or A.R.G.s have been around for a while in the states and the trend is starting to take off in South Africa.
Wikipedia describes them thus:
An alternate reality game (ARG) is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a platform, often involving multiple media and game elements, to tell a story that may be affected by participants' ideas or actions.
The form is typified by intense player involvement with ... Read More

Now this is a fab idea from Nokia. Basically a series of roller disco parties put together by Nokia in the UK called Nokia Music Skate Almighty. It ticks most of the boxes I look for in a good consumer campaign 1: it's novel 2: it tells the story of the product instantly (music on the go) 3: it has some nice extensions that you can use to get decent media coverage 4: it just sounds fun. I actually came across it ... Read More

We’ve just completed an annual review for La Motte wines and I think our results are worth shouting about (and a toast or two with the latest vintage Millennium).
Over the last twelve months we have produced over seventy clippings resulting in R4.9m in publicity, a return of investment of x17! Considering the amount of wine brands there are just in South Africa, we believe that PR for them is like the wine making process: a bit of an art. It takes ... Read More

Online Media, Platforms, Innovation and Advertising
Matthew mentions what I think one of the biggest opportunities (and threats) for online media: targeting ads contextually (in the way google ads or Facebook does) to make money out of overseas media traffic (which accounts for alot of traffic on most major news sites internationally).
Does the online advertisement offer more value, or measurability or better results or more cost saving, compared with traditional ... Read More
